Scattergories is a popular party game that can be played as a drinking game and involves using a die with letters to determine the starting letter for the round. In this game, each of the players picks from the same list of categories, and a timer is set for three minutes.

The Scattergories drinking game is an adult party version of the classic Scattergories game. Here are some rules for playing the Scattergories drinking game:

• To start, roll the first die and set the timer for three minutes.
• On each turn, players must try to figure out an answer for each category on their list with the letter that appears on the die.
• When a player rolls a letter that has already been played, they must make a new roll.
• The player starts by calling out an item in the assigned category, and the next person calls out another object in the same category.
• The players will continue taking turns calling out items until someone can’t think of anything new.
• If a player can’t come up with anything new, they have to take a drink. The repeated answers score zero points, while the unique answers score one point.
• To get the winner, record the scores at the end of each round and add them when the rounds are done.

To make the game more fun, players can add additional rules. Some ideas include:

• Ban words that start with a specific letter.
• Make everyone mimic a certain action.
• Prohibit using names in conversation.
• Require players to ask permission from the homeowner before opening a drink.

To spice up this drinking version, players can add rules like taking a sip if they have a duplicate answer or finishing their drink if they can’t come up with an answer for a category. They can also add the rule that the player with the lowest score at the end of the round should take a shot.

How to Play Scattergories Drinking Game

To begin the game, each participating player rolls the die and starts the countdown. The players will then try to figure out the answer for each category on their list that starts with the letter on the roll of the dice. Whenever a player uses a term that has already been rolled, they must re-roll.

Then, depending on the time limit, players write down words that fit the categories and continue with the assigned letter. In addition, the answers may have multiple words, but the initial ones must start with the corresponding letter. The players can prefer creative answers, and the group can vote on any questionable suggestions.

Afterward, when the timer runs out, all players read out their 12 responses one by one. If a player has the same answer as another player already has, the players with the duplicate responses must cross out their answers.

Only the unique answer should be left unchecked, and duplicate answers score zero points, while unique answers score one point per answer. When all the rounds are over, tally the scores at the end of each round and add them to figure out the winner.
