The President Card Game, also known by other names such as Asshole, Scum, or Capitalism, is a popular shedding card game designed for three or more players. The goal of the President game is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand and become the President for the next round of play.

The game uses 52 standard playing cards and ranks them from highest to lowest, in which the cards are arranged in the following order: 2, A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 5. The game involves strategy, quick thinking, and the ability to play cards to beat the previous plays.

The Rules for President Card Game

The President card game rules are easy, players needs is to be the first player to finish discarding all the cards in the player’s hand and become the President. The typical order of power in this game is 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A, and 2, from left to right. However, after Four of a Kind is played, the order is reversed. The Joker is a trump card that can be played on anything to automatically win the hand.

How to Play President Card Game

To kick off the game, shuffle the deck and request that each player pick a card at random from the deck. The player with the lowest rank of cards deals the first round of cards. The dealer organizes the cards and distributes all the cards out to the players, one at a time, starting to the dealer’s left.

Starting Round

The player to the dealer’s left plays a single card or a set of cards of equal rank face up on the playing surface. After that, every player must then either pass or play a card or set of cards that outperform the previous card being played, and play continues in a clockwise direction.

Card Rankings

In President, a higher single card beats a single card, and a higher set of the same number of cards beats a set of cards. For example, you can beat two sixes with two kings or two sevens, but not with a single king or three sevens. In a game in which a player plays multiple cards of the same rank, the next player must match them with an equal number of cards of a higher rank.

Dealing and Playing

The player in the next position to the dealer begins by taking any number of cards of the same rank (one, two, or more are possible with wildcards, jokers, or multiple decks). The next person on the left will take a turn and play an equal number of matching cards with a higher face value, or pass them.

Matching Cards

The players can match cards according to their suits; if a player cannot match or outrank the previous card, their turn is over. When nobody can match or outrank the previous card played in a game, then the original player clears the discard pile and begins again. In cases where all four cards of a specific rank are played in one turn, the entire pile is discarded and again takes place.

Becoming President

The first player to run out of cards is the President for the upcoming round, and the last player with cards is the Scum. The winner of each round becomes the President, and the positions change every next round. The first player to get rid of all their cards is the President, the second player is the Vice President, and so on for scum.

Scoring and Next Round

Once a round ends, the scores are put together based on the players’ positions during the round. The President earns the highest points, the Vice President earns the next highest, and so on. The player who was the Scum earns the lowest points, and the next round begins with the President picking up the game to play.

Game Ending and Winning

The game continues for several rounds, and the player with the highest total score at the end of the predetermined number of rounds is declared the overall winner of the game. There are no specific points to end the game; players can decide when they want to stop the game after multiple rounds, or the game can end when one player scores 11 or more points.
