Buckaroo is an engaging stacking game designed for two or more players, ages 4 and up. The objective of the Buckaroo board game is to load a mule named Buckaroo with various gears for a gold mining trip without causing it to buck and throw off the items.
Buckaroo Instructions
The Buckaroo game includes a plastic mule with a base and 13 plastic game pieces, such as a saddle, shovel, blanket, pan, lantern, bedroll, rope, dynamite, hat, holster, guitar, and crate. Players take turns stacking items onto the mule’s back, and the last player to load the mule without losing their gear wins.
Setup
Place the Buckaroo on a flat surface or table with the pile of gear off to the side where everyone can reach it. Lock the buckaroo figure in place by pushing down on its tail until its back legs touch the base.
Taking Turns
Players place a piece of gear on the buckaroo’s saddle, either on a hook or on top of another piece of gear. Carefully hang or place one piece of gear on the Buckaroo without touching it.
Be Careful
If the buckaroo bucks while placing the gear, or any gear falls off, the player is out of the game. If Buckaroo bucks, push its bottom down again to lock it back into place. Return any bucked-off gear to the pile next to Buckaroo.
Winning the Game
The last player to load a piece of gear without causing the buckaroo to buck wins. Alternatively, if only one player remains in the game, that player also wins.
Buckaroo Variations and Age Recommendations
The Buckaroo game offers three difficulty levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. It takes about 10 minutes to play and is suitable for families. However, it may not be suitable for children under 3 due to the small parts that could be a choking hazard.
Storage Instructions
When you’re done playing, carefully lift Buckaroo’s front feet off the base and place all the game parts into the box for easy storage. Buckaroo is an exciting and interactive game that combines skill and suspense, making it a great choice for game nights and family gatherings.

Buckaroo is a fun and exciting stacking game for two or more players, ages 4 and up. The game involves loading a mule named Buckaroo with gear for a gold mining trip. The Buckaroo game includes a plastic mule with a base and 13 plastic game pieces, such as a saddle, shovel, blanket, pan, lantern, bedroll, rope, dynamite, hat, holster, guitar, crate, and sack.
The players take turns stacking items onto the mule’s back without causing it to buck, throwing off the items, and knocking the player out of the game. The last player to load the mule without losing their gear wins. To start the game, place Buckaroo on a flat surface, with the pile of gear off to the side where everyone can touch it with their hands.
Gently push Buckaroo’s bottom down until his back legs touch the base. Then push his tail down to lock him into place. Carefully remove your hand so that you don’t accidentally make him buck! The youngest player goes first by gently resting the saddle on Buckaroo’s blanket.
On each turn, carefully position one piece of gear (your choice) on Buckaroo, and place the piece on the saddle, either on one of the hooks or on another piece of gear that’s already there. As you place the piece, don’t touch the Buckaroo.
You may not need to do anything to set him off. And place the piece when he bucks, or if that piece, or any other piece, falls off of him, you’re out of the game. Every time Buckaroo bucked, push his bottom down again, lock him into place, and return any bucked-off gear to the pile next to Buckaroo.
Now it’s the next player’s turn. Keep taking turns trying to load gear onto Buckaroo’s saddle until one of the following happens: A player successfully places the last piece of gear. That player wins the game! OR only one player remains in the game. That player wins. When you’re done playing, carefully lift Buckaroo’s front feet off the base. Then place all the game parts into the box for easy storage. Enjoy the game!
