UNO Flip is a family card game that is suitable for families and children of age several or above. UNO Flip is a variation of the classic UNO game, with a more complex strategy and tougher penalties. In the game, players add a card from their hands and make sure it is facing the same direction light with light and dark with dark.

UNO Flip Cards

A deck of UNO Flip cards has 112 cards in a sided deck of light side and dark side cards. The light side cards have a white border and cards are available in four colors: red, blue, yellow, and green. The dark side cards have a dark border and the cards contain four colors: pink, teal, orange, and purple.

In UNO Flip, the holder of the FLIP card decides to play on the light or dark side of the deck, and when the player switches sides. When a player plays a flip card, all persons flip the cards in their hand, the draw pile, and the discard pile. The FLIP card can come at any time and change the game’s way from light to dark or vice versa. When the “Flip” card is played players must be aware of the color of the most recent card used and respond quickly.

UNO Flip Cards Meaning

To play, the dealer shuffles all the cards and gives seven cards to each person and the player takes a turn playing cards that match by number, color, or symbol. The flip cards have a card icon with an arrow on them, and they allow you to flip the deck between the light and dark sides. When a flip card is played the deck shifts to the other side and all players play that side card.

The game round ends when one person plays his cards and empties his hands by saying UNO! loudly when playing his last cards. The first player to score 500 points wins the game. Players score points based on the cards left in their opponent’s hands according to these cards points:

Cards with the numbers 1–9 are worth their face value in points, Draw One cards are worth 10 points, Draw Five cards are worth 20 points, Reverse cards are worth 20 points, Skip cards are worth 20 points, Flip cards are worth 20 points, Skip Everyone cards are worth 30 points, and Wild cards are worth 40 points.

UNO Flip Card Meanings Light Side

Draw One Card

This card forces the next player to draw one card and miss their turn. Players can play a light side Draw One card on a matching color or another Draw One card and if used at the beginning of play, the same rule applies.

Reverse Card

This card reverses the direction and changes the path of play (from left to right or vice versa). The light side Reverse Card can only be used on a matching color or another Reverse card and if used at the beginning of play, the dealer goes first, and play moves to the right instead of the left.

Skip Card

This card skips the next player’s turn and his turn loses and play continues to the next person. The light side Skip Card can only be used on a matching color or another Skip card and if used in the beginning of play, the player to the left of the dealer is skipped, and the player to the left of that player starts play.

Wild Card

This card allows the player to choose the color that continues play, including the color in play before the Wild card was laid down. The Light Side Wild Card can be played even if the player has another playable card in their hand and if used at the beginning of play, the person to the left of the dealer chooses the color that continues play.

Wild Draw 2 Card

This card is similar to the Wild Card but with an additional twist. The light side Wild Draw 2 Card allows the player to decide the color that continues play, and the next player must draw two cards from the draw pile and lose their turn, if used at the beginning of the play, return this card to the deck, and pick another card.

However, the player can only play this card when they do not have another card in their hand that matches the COLOR on the DISCARD pile (but it’s acceptable to play this card if they have matching numbers or Action Cards).

Flip Card

This card is unique to Uno Flip and allows the player to flip everything from the Light Side to the Dark Side and can only be played on a matching color or on another Flip card. Once the Flip card has been used, flip over the Discard Pile, and players hands must flip to the other side. This new side will remain in play until another Flip card is played, changing it again.

Draw Five Card

This card forces the next player to draw five cards and miss their turn. You can only play this card on a matching color or on another Draw Five card.

Reverse Card

This card changes the direction of play and if play is going left, it changes to right, and vice versa. You can only play dark side reverse cards on a matching color or another Reverse card.

Skip Everyone Card

This card skips all players and returns play to whoever played the card. You can only play this card on a matching color or another Skip Everyone card.

Wild Card

This card lets you choose the color that continues play. You can play this dark side will card even if you have another playable card in your hand.

Wild Draw Color Card

This card forces the next player to draw cards until they get a color of their choosing and lose their turn. However, you can only play this card when you do not have another card in your hand that matches the color on the discard pile, and only acceptable to play this card if you have a matching number or Action cards.

Flip Card

This card flips everything from the Dark Side to the Light Side. After playing this card, flip over the discard pile (the card just played will now be at the bottom), and the draw pile and everyone’s hands must flip to the other side. This new side will remain in play until another Flip card is played, changing it again. You can only play this card on a matching color or another Flip card.
