The Pokémon UNO Cards & Rules

Pokemon UNO is a variation of the classic UNO card game, based on the popular anime and manga franchise, Pokémon. The game features Pokémon-themed cards and includes a special “Trainer” card that allows players to exchange all of their cards with one of their opponent’s cards.

The first Pokémon UNO deck was released in 2006 to celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary and is considered one of the rarest Pokémon UNO sets. Later, Japanese releases are based on the Sun & Moon and Sword & Shield eras.

Pokémon UNO Cards

The Pokémon UNO deck has 112 cards, including 108 playing cards and four blank UNO cards. The cards feature Pokémon characters from different eras, including Pikachu, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Snorlax, Rayquaza, and Deoxys. The 2006 deck features Pokémon from the Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald eras.

Components

The components of a Pokémon UNO deck are the same as 112 cards in a standard UNO deck, but they have pictures of Pokémon from the Pokémon series featured on the cards. The deck includes four extra wild cards: Wild Snorlax Traffic Cards, Wild Battle Bond Card, Meowth, and Wobbuffet’s “Trick Everyone!” and Pikachu’s “Thunderbolt.”.

Pokemon UNO Wild Cards

The cards in Pokémon UNO are similar to regular UNO, but the deck includes four extra wild cards:

• Wild Snorlax Traffic Cards: This card lets you pick a color, and the next player must draw three cards and discard all cards of that color from their hand.
• Wild Battle Bond Card: This card also lets you specify a color, and the next player must draw a card. However, if the card they elect to draw does not match the specified color, they must draw another card.
• Meowth and Wobbuffet’s “Trick Everyone!”: When this card is played, all other players take turns drawing one card each, and they may not be allowed to directly play the card that is drawn.
• Pikachu’s “Thunderbolt”: The thunderbolt card means the players discard all yellow cards in their hand. This card can be played in any color, and the play continues as normal afterward, starting with yellow.

Pokemon UNO Rules

The rules of Pokémon UNO are similar to the basic rules of regular UNO. The game can be played by 2 to 10 players, and the objective is to be the first player or team to reach 500 points while playing multiple rounds.

The scoring for the cards is as follows:

• Numbered cards from 0 to 9: Face value
• Draw Two, Skip, and Reverse: 20 points each
• Wild, Wild Draw Four: 50 points each

How to Play Pokemon UNO Card Game

To start playing the game of Pokemon Uno, one person is going to be selected as a dealer player to shuffle and deal the cards, and all players draw a card to begin. Starting with the dealer, who mixes the cards, hands out seven cards to each player, and organizes the remaining cards in the deck face down to create the draw pile.

Starting the game round

The round begins with the player to the left of the dealer picking a card that matches the top card of the draw card from the remaining cards by matching his card either by number, color, symbol, or the picture of Pokemons illustrated on cards.

Taking Turns

In this game, players take turns matching a card in their hand to the top card of the discard pile by color, number, symbol, or the Pokemon images on the cards. Now, the game continues next to each person in a clockwise direction until a player plays a reverse card or the round ends with one person discarding all his cards.

Penalties

While playing the game, whenever a player can’t play a card, they must draw a new card from the draw pile and skip their turn. When a player picks up his last card, he must say “Uno” before playing the card to let other players know they are close to winning the round. And if he forgets to say UNO and plays his last card and the other player catches him, he must take two cards from the draw pile as a penalty.

Drawing Cards or Discarding Cards

In the uno game, players take turns playing a single card from their hand next to the discard pile, matching the color, number, or symbol of the card already there. If a player has no matching card to play, they must draw a new card from the draw pile and finish their turn.

Round End & Next Round

The round ends in the uno play when the first person gets rid of all the cards in their hands and has no cards left to play. A new round starts with the player to the left of the previous dealer becoming the new dealer and again dealing the seven cards to each person, and the play continues until a person can score 500 points.

Scoring and Winning

At the end of each round, the first person to play all cards from his hand in a round scores points for the cards their opponents have left, and the score is calculated according to the cards in the remaining player’s hands, where the scoring points are discussed above.

The player who achieves 500 points first in the final score of multiple rounds is declared the winner. The game ends when a person reaches 500 points; because of the higher number of points at the end of the game, he becomes the winner.
